Mulago Kings beat Makerere university in chess

Last year's runners up the Chess League Mulago Kings, fired Makerere University 2.5 against 1.5 with former East Africa champion Hassan Mulambe drawing with the current champion Harold Wanyama, on board one.

Grace Daniel Nsubuga beat Katula Frobisha on board 2, while national junior champion Kawuma Patrick was humbled by little known Okiring Fred on board three. Veteran Kwiiyulli Jasper collected Mulago's last point on board four after beating Mpora Benard.

In the other matches, newly promoted Kireka fired Mulago Knights 4-1, Mengo beat Rooks by a similar score.

Defending champions Luzira chess club, failed to participate even after the deadline for registration was extended for a month to accommodate them. In division two favorites Uganda Christian University Knights thumped Kireka Vipers 5-0.

The UCU team led by junior sensation Joel Wegoye hammered kireka on all the five boards to score maximum points.
