WFP workers on strike over poor pay

More than 200 workers at the United Nations World Food Program stores in Nakulongo have put down their tools desisting poor pay. They desist the 50 shillings given for loading and off loading each bag of rice and maize flour.

Following continuous agitation for increasing their take home package and meeting a deadlock, workers at World Food Programme warehouse in Nalukolongo, have decided to lay down their tools.

On arrival at the work premises, the workers were denied entry and patrol police was called in to stop an anticipated violent strike. discontented workers.

The workers desist the 50 shillings payable on each 100kg bag of rice, beans and flour, loaded and offloaded on trucks as well as the new company called Dynamic, which WFP has awarded a tender to manage the store.

But WFP Logistics Officer, Kanjit Kidane said the workers have no mandate to oppose a company contracted by WFP, because tendering is through a thorough process.

She denies allegations that the Manager of Nalukolongo warehouse, John Wamala has a take in Dynamics company, contracted to run the warehouse.
