Kawempe councilors demand for the resignation of LC3 Chairman

Kawempe Division councilors have given the chairperson, Nasser Takuba Kibirige and the Vice Chairperson Emmanuel Sserunjogi, a two weeks ultimatum to resign, after allegedly embezzling over one billion shillings. Takuba insists on keeping his position, and intends to run for the same come 2011.

Under different political parties, Kawempe Division councilors say the electorates' demands have not been well represented, since division leaders have failed to deliver despite revenue collections. They single out the chairman Nasser Takuba Kibirige and his Vice, Emmanuel Sserunjogi, who doubles as secretary finance and secretary for works in the division respectively.

Following the auditors report, which showed a loss of over I.4 billion shillings, the councilors expressed anger over the incompetence of the two leaders. But Takuba assures the councilors that he can only leave office in the year 201.1 after his five year term.

The councilors argue that there is always sufficient money from Government and the district but it ends up being embezzled by the two, who overspend the fuel budget and allocate tenders to friends. But Takuba says the division does not get enough revenue from government.

He says the council will follow recommendations from the IGG's report on developing the division and calls upon all councilors to unite towards development of the division.
