Namirembe cathedral commemorates 20 years of “Send a Cow”

The retired bishop Wilson Mutebi of Namirembe cathedral has called for communities to embrace self help projects that will remove them out of poverty, instead of waiting for handouts. He made the appeal while leading faithfuls in a thanksgiving mass to celebrate 20years of a project, Send a cow, Uganda.

Hundreds Beneficiaries of Send a cow project attended the thanks giving service at Namirembe Cathedral to celebrate 20 years of their source of prosperity. The retired bishop Wilson Mutebi urged members of the congregation to take steps to get out of poverty.

Send a cow Uganda, a project run by the Anglican church provides livestock and training to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable farmers in over 39 districts in the country.

Send a cow Uganda has since detached itself from Send a cow United Kingdom which conceived the idea. Instead of importing cows from the UK , the organization now buys from local sources.

It distributes the cows to individuals who are later pass on a calf to other people, and as the distribution circle grows so do the benefits.
