PARENTS form association to probe school fires

Under their umbrella association called “Parents Brigade”, concerned parents intend to petition the speaker of parliament to institute an independent body to find out the actual causes of increased fire out breaks in Schools.

The Parents Brigade's procession is to be led by the Lubaga North Member of parliament Betty Kamya.

The parents Brigade was established in April 2008 by a group of ten members who got concerned over the high rates of what they call unexplained fire incidents in schools that have continuously claimed lives of innocent children and their property in both private and government schools.

In a period of about two months, over thirty schools have got burnt with the fatal one in Buddo Junior School which claimed the lives of twenty children.

Parliament rejected a motion by Rosemary Seninde to appoint an independent inquiry in the schools which the parents have described as unfortunate and have opted for extra efforts.

The member of parliament for lubaga North Betty Kamya says that invitations will go out to the members of parliament to rally behind the parents.

The Chairperson Parents Brigade Edgar Barigye says that they have already communicated to the Inspector General of Police and hoped there will be no interruptions.
