The Opposition says government is responsible for fires

The opposition is accusing security personnel as number one suspects in starting school fires, that have so far seen twenty nine schools fall victim nationwide.

The leader of the opposition, Prof. Ogenga Latigo, says this explains the laxity in thoroughly investigating or releasing reports of investigations into school fires.

The leader of the opposition, Prof. Ogenga Latigo rules out the possibility of a coincidence in the rampant school fires, whose latest victim is Makerere High School Migadde.

He says the fires have had a similarity in trend by for instance centering on burning school dormitories.

In a Tuesday Parliamentary debate, government proposed to set up a joint investigation team comprised of the police, ISO, CMI, DPP and other organs to handle the matter, headed by the Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. kale Kaihura. But the opposition leader casts doubts on the effectiveness of such a team.

The Inspector General of Police was reportedly in a day long meeting and could not be reached to clarify on how the joint force would work. But Prof. Ogenga Latigo suggests steps that cab be taken to re-assure citizens of peace.

Some of the schools that have been involved in these fires include Buddo Junior, which was the first victim, Seeta High School , Molly and Paul Primary School , Progressive SS Kitintale, and Makerere High School Migadde.
