MUFTI opts for silence in court

The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, and two others have before Buganda Road court opted to keep quiet in their defense to charges relating to the properties of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.

Mubajje is jointly charged with Dr. Idris Kasenene, former secretary General of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council and Hassan Basajjabalaba, the Vice Chairman of the same council. The trio opted to keep quiet in their defense, on grounds that their actions were approved by the executive committee of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.

The three men are charged with alleged fraudulent disposal of the properties of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council. The properties in question are situated at plots 30 and 102 along William Street in Kampala city.

They are also charged with alleged use of fake documents while transferring ownership of the said properties to Haks Express Limited, belonging to Basajjabalaba. They face another offense of alleged conspiracy to dispose off the properties in question.

The presiding Chief magistrate, Margaret Tibulya, ordered defense and state lawyers to file before court their final submissions to the charges before August 28 th this year. The accused who deny the charges had their bail extended by court until then.

Advocates Muzamil Kibedi assisted by Chris Wamukota and JKeff Bogere defend the accused while senior state attorney, Andrew Odit represents prosecution.
