Mao warns against brief case NGOs

The LC V Chairman Gulu district, Norbert Mao, says FIDA Uganda should blacklist all NGOs that have failed to address Women issues as part of their programs in northern Uganda . Many NGOs are providing support to the communities in Northern Uganda as they return to their homes, but Mao says that most of these NGOs are incompetent and have taken advantage of the suffering of Women and children, turning their plight into a money minting scheme.

As communities in Northern Uganda resettle in their homes, women and children continued to suffer with their rights being violated because of lack of access to justice. With the launch of the first FIDA Uganda office in Gulu district, Norbert Mao says that its time to judge all incompetent NGOS that have manipulated the communities without recognizing women and children rights as they settle in their homes.

He says that the district local government will only support NGOs that have results on the ground and are committed to ensuring the wellbeing of the communities. A holistic approach is also needed to address the problem of domestic violence that has torn apart many families.

The chairperson FIDA Uganda, Linda Mugisha Tumusiime says they need to provide legal services in Northern Uganda to ensure that women are empowered to regain their dignity by participating in all activities of development.

The Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Musa Ecweru called on FIDA to reinstate the justice system in the region, saying that the return and resettle program is a big challenge that requires a holistic approach to ensure total peace.

Ecweru urged the women lawyers to work together with the government in strengthening families and to prepare them for return, resettlement and recovery programs. However, abuse and violation of human rights continues in families returning home, as women are beaten, raped and the girls forced into marriage.
