Eleven people abducted in IDP inter clashes in Amuru district

Eleven people have been abducted and one gone missing resulting from land wrangle in Amuru district prompting fresh redeployment of UPDF in the area. The MP for Gulu Municipality Alex Penytoo while speaking on phone confirmed the abduction.

The land wrangles in Amuru district have been going on for over months but only reached the climax yesterday with the disappearance of one Jackob Olyec who is now feared dead.

In what appeared to be a revenge, a group of over 150 Laboo clan members attacked Lakang camp and abducted 11 IDPs who are mainly Labmogi clan members claiming they were  looking for their lost son.

They attacked the camp at dawn, disarmed any man they came across and ordered the women to stay indoors.

Police from Amuru went to quell the situation but they were over powered by the angry IDPs. They retreated until a re-enforcing of anti riot police armed with tear gas was sent from Gulu.

The IDPs blocked the road to stop police accusing them of siding with Labongo clan by trying to arrest their leader Kenneth Onekalit who reportedly commanded the operation.

The IDP argued that the presence of tear gas in the IDP camp was a big threat which created fresh memories of LRA war followed by gun shots in the morning by police.

Over one hundred UPDF soldiers were deployed immediately at the camp following fears expressed by the IDPs that Labongo clan threatened to pay back by attacking the camp in Paboo Sub County.
