Ministry to develop a policy on congestion in schools

In the wake of the increasing mysterious school fires, the Ministry of Education and Sports is instituting a policy that prohibits education institutions from admitting students beyond the capacity of their facilities.

Presiding over at the 12 th Graduation Ceremony of nurses from Masaka School of Registered Comprehensive Nursing, the State Minister for Higher Education Gabriel Opio said, as government investigates the cause of the mysterious fires in schools, the Ministry of Education and Sports is coming up with a policy against congestion in schools.

He adds that, the policy will give the ministry the mandate to punish school heads whose schools are congested. He reports that the Ministry of Education and Sports is to increasing funding and staff for Nursing schools.

This follows a revelation by the Masaka School of Registered Comprehensive Nursing Principal Tutor Drolence Wakida that the school like many others in country is highly indebted and has failed it to conduct some of the key programs for the trainees.

A total of 222 students who attended the school between 1994 – 2007 graduated with diplomas in nursing.
