MP LULUME sworn in

The newly-elected Member of Parliament for Buikwe Constituency South and General Secretary of the Democratic Party, Dr. Michael Lulume Bayiga, pledges to represent his people effectively especially on pertinent issues pending debate in the House.

He makes the ninth MP from the Democratic party, to join the house. Dr. Lulume Bayiga was received into the Chamber of Parliament on invitation by the Speaker, Edward Ssekandi, amid a tumultuous welcome from the gallery accompanied by his colleagues from Uganda 's oldest political party DP.

He proceeded to take the Oaths of Allegiance to the State and that of a Member of Parliament. His ascension to Parliament follows a victory in a by-election held on April 30 th, 2008 by a decisive 58.8 percent of votes cast.

The Buikwe South seat fell vacant on 6 th March, 2008 when the Supreme Court upheld rulings of both the High Court and Court of Appeal, nullifying the election of Anthony Harris Mukasa of the ruling National Resistance Movement. The nullification was on grounds of election malpractices in the 2006 poll.
